Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned by Walter Mosley

So, I'm a Walter Mosley fan. I'm trying to go through his entire collection. I just think he's that amazing. So I discover this book and apparently it's been made into a movie with Laurence Fishburne. I liked the book overall, it just wasn't what I expected. It's more or less a book of short stories with one central character, Socrates. The book description did say that it was about parts of  Socrates' life after his time in prison; I just thought the stories would have been more cohesive. One story didn't lead into the other. There were overlapping characters but their relationship to Socrates was briefly explained in the current story. One thing you do learn throughout the book is the crime Socrates committed that landed him in jail. Even though the stories didn't merge into one another, I still enjoyed the book. It left me curious about the movie and how it was made/directed. Maybe one day I'll netflix it.

PS - I read this book in February 2011

  1. Wow, I could see myself really wanting to read this book because of the premise. But I would've wanted the stories to lead into one another too! And I would def watch the movie as well. Come to my house!
