Darkfever (Fever Series #1) by Karen Marie Moning

After finishing Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned I decided to choose my next book from the NYT Bestsellers list. I forget which book was mentioned, but it was in the Fever Series, so I had to start from the beginning. Now reading the synopsis on the back cover was confusing, but I knew once I started reading it would make more sense. The book is about a fantasy world with "people" and a whole vocabulary is created. There are so many details that this book could easily have been a textbook; oh wait there's a glossary at the back of the book. LOL Throughout the entire book the main character - Mac - is searching for a magical book with Barrons. Mac leaves Georgia to search for her sister's murderer in Ireland and there she meets Barrons. They encounter many magical creatures during their search for the magical book; they are all looking for the book. Of course there's a good side and an evil side, but even those on the good side commit evil acts to get the book. Long story short Mac & Barrons form a sort of tag team duo to combat these creatures and they still don't find the book.

It took forever for me to get into the groove of this book. There are 347 pages in the novel and I didn't get genuinely interested until dang near page 200!!! The dialogue is mediocre and at times atrocious.  The story dragged at points and the entire novel is set in a time frame of 2 weeks.  I couldn't wait to finish the book so I could get on to the next book. Unfortunately, the end of the book wasn't the end. I knew that since it was a series there would be a cliffhanger of some sort, but the book just ended abruptly with Mac passing out while recovering from a fight with one of the magical creatures. So now I'm forced to continue the series. SMH
