The Running Man by Stephen King

Ben Richards and his wife Sheila are struggling to survive and take care of their ailing child Cathy. Richards decides to go on a show where he risks his life every hour of every day. Every hour he remains alive, his wife and child receive new money. The year is 2025 in America and the disparity between the rich and the poor has increased dramatically. The screening process Richards undergoes to get on the game show is very thorough and as the reader learns his sense of humor; you can't help but root for him. While on his run, Richards exposes a government conspiracy and increases the amount of people looking to kill him. He gains the respect of his adversaries and breaks the record of the last contestant on "The Running Man". This book left me wanting much more. The end was an end but I felt somewhat incomplete. After completing the book, I was speaking to a friend who told me there's actually a movie based on the book. I'll have to check that out.
