I think I smiled 93% of the time as I read this book. Miles is a young teenager who's interested in people's last words. Inspired by his favorite, "I go to seek a Great Perhaps." (last words of François Rabelais), Miles decides to leave Florida to attend a boarding school in Alabama. He becomes friends with Chip, Takumi, and Alaska. The young teenagers have fun together. They bond over pranks and cafeteria food. Their friendship deepens over curiosities about sex. This is the perfect coming of age story. It wasn't overwhelming on sadness and puppy love, or on adventure and rebellion. John Green reminded me of all the good times I had during my childhood. Middle school and high school were filled with adventures and wonderful memories of self discovery. There's a moment when they are all at a basketball game, and Chip yells "for the love of God, please shave your back hair!" I did that so many times. Even now I yell strange things at the tv during sports games. This book was such a feel good book but because of the sex I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 14. Tuesday, March 10, 2015
