The Levee: A Novel of Baton Rouge by Malcolm Shuman

This book had me guessing all the way til the end. Shuman's writing put me in the moment and I felt everything. The book tells the story of a writer who grew up in Baton Rouge named Colin. Colin returns home from Colorado in his early 60's in an effort to clarify his mind. He's been having nightmares about an incident that occurred while in high school that involved him and his closest friends. The high school's Spanish teacher was found murdered a short distance from where Colin and his friends frequently camp...they happened to have been there the night of the murder also.

The story is told as flashbacks Colin has, as he retraces his steps the night of the incident and tries to contact his old high school buddies. Whether the story being told is in the present time or in the past, it captures you and you become engrossed in it. The suspense is breathtaking...at least to me it is. I was totally shocked at the outcome. I thought I had it all figured out...but nope I was wrong. LOL This book is a GREAT read. You will not be disappointed at all.
