Even though this book was recommended by a person I trust, I didn't expect it to be so good. I try to stay away from YA novels because they become predictable and I lose interest. This book however, kept me wanting more. I was upset when I couldn't read it because of work and other responsibilities that come along with being an adult.
Conor is going through a very rough time with his family and is annoyed that everyone is treating him differently. He is betrayed by his best friend, detached from his dad, distanced from his grandma and worried about his mom. His only stability is at school when he gets bullied. The reader learns about Conor and the dynamics his relationship with these people. It's hard not to sympathize with Conor and his situation. He is barely a teenager but you can still feel his pain and grief as an adult. The yew tree in Conor's front yard helps him woth his troubles One might not think that a walking, talking tree could help but the tree is old and has poignant stories to tell. "A Monster Calls" is a great book. It's an even better book for a child dealing with their grief.

i was looking for a review of this book and I found you ! Very helpful . Any other books you recommend?
