A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
This book totally rocked my socks. Although I had already seen the first season (the equivalent of this book) on HBO, the book somehow made it more real. The book is set in a time millennia ago when people got their food from the woods and shoes were a luxury. It felt like forever to get through the 800+ pages of the novel but it was so good and so enthralling. Basically the Lannisters and the Starks go to war over who is the rightful heir to the iron throne AND there are dragons on the other side of the world. *gasp* I think the oldest person is 50 and the current king is about 13. There are maps which help while reading. Everyone travels by horse or boat if necessary. They each gather their allies and unexpected deaths occur. There's so much detailing in the book I could go on for pages. Long story short READ THIS BOOK! Here's one of my favorite parts:

While reading the book on the train, a passenger asked who my favorite character was and without much thought I said Tyrion. Tyrion Lannister gives you his honest opinion whether you ask for it or not. He may be from a wealthy family line but because he is a dwarf he dishes harshness just as much and as efficient as he receives it.
I can't wait to read to book 2...especially since I haven't seen season 2 yet. But season 3 starts next week! Aaagh, I better get reading! Lol
