Home by Toni Morrison

A quick read but full of depth; Toni Morrison doesn't waste her words. She transitions seemingly without effort and uses vocabulary that is simultaneously concise and descriptive. I read the book twice because I wanted to take notes in the margins. (Oh how I missed reading print books!) Frank Money is a Korean War veteran who is returning home to take care of his sister, Cee. As he makes his way to her the reader is clued into his past bit by bit. It gives much insight into living in America during the 1950's. You read about the kindness of strangers, segregation, cruelty of people you trust, love, childhood memories, and family struggles. I felt power and strength from Frank. I felt empathy and love for Cee. Maybe that's just me but the book just engulfs you. I can't remember the last Toni Morrison book I read but I highly recommend this book. Here's an example of how she says so much with so little. Thomas is an 11 year old boy who lost an arm when he was shot by a cop.
