Confessions of an ugly stepsister by Gregory Maguire
This tells the origins of the classic Cinderella fairy tale. As it's always said, there's more than 1 side to a story; the reader learns those other sides in this novel. The three sisters actually had a friendship of sorts. When I first started the book, I thought it was going to be magical and...well, just an extended version of what I've always heard. It tells of the stepsisters' lives before they even meet Cinderella. I really enjoyed the book. It gives you a specific period of time and you can picture the town and the characters vividly. There is vocabulary used that I had to use context clues to figure out. And of course, since it's written in a specific period there's a way of speaking that's absolved in today's English. That wasn't difficult to understand either. It was a fun book. There was scandal, mystery, happiness, and forgiveness. I think everyone would enjoy this book.
