Room by Emma Donoghue

This is such a MAGNIFICENT book. I can't recommend it enough. I'm glad I spent money on it. It tells the story of a woman and her 5 year old son being held captive in a single room. Jack has just turned 5 when his life changes forever. He only knows his mother and their captor. It's interesting to see the world through Jack's eyes and in his words. Donoghue uses great language; it's the words of a 5 year old but the reader knows exactly what he's talking. It's remarkable how realistic this book is. I wouldn't know from personal experience or anything but...everything in the book is plausible. There are discussion topics and an interview with the author at the end of the book. I am telling everyone I know about this book!

  2. I loved this book too - I was on the edge of my seat for the first half and cried my way through the second half! I've just read her earlier book called Slammerkin for the Historical Fiction Challenge. Happy reading!
