The Walking Dead: Book One by Robert Kirkman

10Nov2014: This was my first ever graphic novel and I am very pleased. How they crammed so much into so little is amazing!!! The illustrations are in black and white but they're still convincing. In the opening scene Rick gets shot and  ends up in a coma. When he wakes up the world has dissolved and zombies are running rampant. My only issue/question is how long Rick was in the coma. As the story develops it seems about 2 months has passed. However, as he's escaping the city in search for his family he recalls the day he was shot and how he drove his wife (Lori) to the hospital to deliver their son, Carl. When Rick finds his family (not a spoiler) among others at safe spot outside the city Carl is 7 and recognizes him. Maybe I misunderstood his recollection but whatever, it doesn't take away from the awesomeness of the story. There are love connections, scheming, plentiful zombie attacks, lost friendships...so much in so little! There were moments I read too fast and had to go back and force myself to slow down and ingest the images. I tried 3 times to watch the show and couldn't get into it. I thought it was overrated. Well...this changed my opinion on that! I still won't watch the show but Book Two is in the very near future. ^_^
