Of Mice & Men by John Steinbeck

23 May 2014: I don't think I've read this book since junior high school. I remembered pieces but not the full story. As I was reading, parts came back from memory but I hadn't remembered the ending at all. I was not prepared. If I had remembered any part of it I would've known not to finish the book between my shifts at work. That was a mistake. I was overly sensitive the rest of the day. With all that said, I did enjoy the book. Lenny and George are neighborhood brothers. They grew up together and formed an inseparable bond. George took care of Lenny despite Lenny's muscular build. They dream of a future in California together, having their own business, their own money, and being their own boss. Once circumstance leads to another and George has to find a way to protect Lenny. It's such a lovely story, told with a spoken dialogue. What I mean is that the words are spelled how they're pronounced,
I wondered why I was required to read this book as a preteen in junior high school. Incidentally, I found my favorite book ever "Flowers for Algernon" during that time also. I didn't understand mental disability at that age. I don't remember what the lessons were about as they were years ago but I do remember liking the books.
